Is the YoWo Band Program for me?

WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO APPLY IF YOU ARE:

• A girl or gender diverse teen in high school

• Currently receiving instrumental lessons (or have previous musical experience)

• Want to play in a band

AT YOWO YOU WILL:

• Be mentored by professional female musician every week

• Learn a range of contemporary styles, including pop, rock, soul, and funk.

• Improve your instrumental skills

• Have the opportunity to write your own songs and play them with a band

• Play a gig at a Melbourne live music venue

• Record a song with your band in a recording studio

• Meet other young musicians around your age from different schools

ABOUT THE AUDITION/INTERVIEW:

Applicants must prepare and perform:

• 2 pieces of their own choice, preferably by memory. These can be of any style; just play something you like!

We will run through some basic musical skills including:

• repeating clapped or sung phrases

• reading chords (for chordal instruments) and melodies

• knowledge of basic chords/scales

There will also be a short interview in which we ask you about your musical history, and why you want to join YoWo!
